Michael Joyce
Coach Michael Joyce is a certified instructor of both the Chen Style Practical Method of Taijiquan (Chen Fake- Hong Junsheng-Chen Zhonghua) and Hunyuan Taijiquan (Feng Zhiqiang- Chen Zhonghua & Yang Yang). While in college at St. Louis University, Coach Joyce co-founded the Martial Arts Club, became a student of classical foil fencing, Sambo and began to formulate a specialized blend of self-protection techniques that would later become the curriculum for the Outfoxxed Program.
His two favorite martial artists of all-time are: Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen. His favorite martial art athletes of all time are: Kazushi Sakuraba, Alexis “El Flaco Explosivo” Arguello and George “Rush” St. Pierre. The film(s)/person(s)/moment(s) that influenced him to explore the martial arts were the movies, The Big Brawl (1980. Jackie Chan) and Best of The Best (1989).
Over the years, Coach Joyce has had the opportunity to train with many extraordinary teachers such as: Master Yang Yang, Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, Dale Stacey, Herb Parran, Zhu Tian Cai, Jiang Jianye, Wang Feng-Ming, Sam Chin, Chen Zhonghua, and Ryron & Rener Gracie.

He currently teaches seasonal Women’s Self Defense Workshops, Taijiquan, Qigong, Wushu, & Fencing (his Fencing Page) in (and around) Winston-Salem. He is currently studying Gracie JiuJitsu with fellow CombativeCorner-ist, Brandon Vaughn. He has also authored a book, The Golden Thread: The Essential Principles of Self Defense (2008) and, as of 2018 is the creator of the Joyce 18 Taijiquan form. #Joyce18
